exhibition: bent's old fort: a view into the past
march 15 to april 18, 2013
friday, march 15, 2013 | 5:30 pm to 8:30 pm
La Junta, CO USA
Robert Gaines photographic projects currently focus on places and buildings whose lives reach into the past. His subjects range from retired prisons to closed factories or historic sites.
Robert, a photographer of nearly 30 years, has always kept his work intensely private, until now.
While visiting Bent's Old Fort in Otero County, Colorado, Robert found the call of the history of not only the place, but the items in it. Of the images in this series, none are composed or use any artificial lighting, all are exactly as found. When one looks at these images, one is looking directly into the past.
"I look for the simple, the dramatic, the different in every day life."
Robert Gaines has been a professional photographer for 30 years. Robert began as an assignment photographer in Phoenix, AZ. He shot anything and everything that the client might need. Difficult, challenging lighting and situations were the daily norm, creativity and perfection the standard. Now, semi-retired, Robert has the time to pursue purely his own goals and needs. The results are the images you will see at this exhibition at Kadoya Gallery.
